Wheel Removal and replacement
« on: April 02, 2017, 07:45:45 PM »
I got the manual by Mark Parts from the UK.  Yes, I have teh factory manual as well but no computer right were I work on my bike eitehr at work or at home.  Laptop?  The wife has purloined that.  So, it says in marks manual to remote the brake pads before taking the front calipers off.  Seems unnecessary unless there is something I do not know here?

Sure if i remove the pads I'll clean the caliper and caliper pistons, but I was not planning on that until at least 6k miles.

For the rear it looks like I just move teh wheel forward and slide the caliper bracket off the swing arm which makes sense to me.  Anyone done tires yet themselves?

Yes, twice and you don't need to remove pads.  Just deal with the calipers in the normal way.

It's a fair question actually as there's no brake arm and the caliper fits exactly the same as my XT660 which is an absolutely MF to do and would be easy if I had 3 hands but the XR is very easy by comparison for some strange reason and that is without a work shop manual.

Just make sure you have a 34mm socket for the spindle nut. :164:

I have the 34mm socket and the 22 allen for teh front.  Where I work it is 90% SAE tools so I'll be bringing lots of metric stuff with me.

The one that  goes into the spindle is 12mm

The security bolts need a 45 Torq head although I changed mine to Ti Allen bolts that need a 6mm key.

Thanks.  I'll just load my box with metric tools so I have everything I need.
