Rad Guards
« on: May 09, 2017, 05:07:08 PM »
New to the forum and I am sure this has been discussed before , but does any one recommend a particular brand of rad guard  and oil cooler for the XR and are they easy to fit but also are they easily removed to clean out the bugs from the rad that will obviously get through
Thanks

Racing radiator Guards does good ones at on £35 for pair they do the same job as stuff at hundreds of pounds. Easy to fit no dismantling of trim. The guy is on Ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-S1000rr-S1000r-S1000xr-Racing-Radiator-Guard-Set-all-years-HP4-2009-2017-/302284555553?hash=item4661904521:g:L~MAAOSw3KFWduVc

A mate and I got the eBay one's at thirty odd quid, do the business, easy fit and blocking rad to cause heat issues, good product, value for money all day long.
the seller uses the money to go racing  :062:

Another vote here for the ebay one. I will admit the evotechs do look a little better but that's only if you know what you are looking for - and they are more expensive! The ebay ones can be fitted without removing or even loosening any fairing panels - it's just a bit fiddly to get the zip ties in place.

another vote to go cheap on these items, they are going to get beat to crap, they are only there to sacrifice themselves, get the cheapo ebay ones and when they get too ugly from catching rocks, toss them in the bin and get another set.

How easy are they to remove if you want to clean the actual rad and oil cooler.

Just cut a few cable ties and pop 'em off, easy as.

As mentioned by clanadam though, putting the cable ties back in can be a bit of a ball-ache..!

Cheers,
Smithy.

Cheap ones tend to be held on with cable ties ( the cheap ones that i have seen )

I have the evotech upper and lower guards and they just work so plus another for Evotech
