Bowing out
« on: June 17, 2017, 09:00:29 AM »
Chaps its been a blast for the last 2 years but the XR is going and is to be replaced with a Ducati Hypermotard 939 SP

The XR is still IMO the best bike BMW have ever made but it will put me in a grave or a jail cell so pastures new and a new kind of fun

Ride safe one and all
You tell me how fast I was going Officer !

I can "totally" relate/ understand where you are at! However, I'm keeping my XR, which oftentimes requires me to apply a good measure of restraint/ self control. I got my XR "primarily" because it fit me perfect/ has excellent ergonomics (better for me than the GS 800/ 1200), its other great benefits are its fantastic handling, all day comfort/ quick shifter/ cruise control. As for the XR, it can be "effectively" ridden in a very low key/ laid back manner. However, in the same breath the XR always saying to me, "come on man", let's get going and rip it up, which I listen to often.

Anyway, on the real roads of life, consisting of various poor/ good condition highways/ curvy roads, IMO all one "really" needs is a 80HP to 110HP, because 90%/ 95% of the time most of action is below 100 MPH, therefore the 160HP XR "can be" overkill, which I've noticed, but I still love it and appreciate its usable/ available power.

I asked my dealer for a cash back of 50%! I only use the first 3 gears off the XR. Any higher gear results in a problem at home, at the bank, at the police station and in the end divorce, jail and becoming some big guys bitch. So for me it is only 3 gears! NO MORE!

I had the hypermotard 939 and traded it against my s1000xr and have regreted trading it . I went back to the dealer to buy it back and it was sold . Completely different from the xr but dont think your licence will be safe . They are an absolute blast and i constantly found myself doing stupid things on it , superb traction control system and it is very easy to wheelie . I love my xr but would love another hypermotard ,
