Smaller rear sprocket
« on: July 14, 2017, 09:49:08 PM »
I am considering changing my oe 45T rear sprocket to one with 42T just so that the revs drop a bit in 6th gear. 6000 at 80 mph is in my opinion too much I would like it to be in the low 5s at 80mph.
Has anybody in this forum have any experience knowledge advice would be welcome

I've changed mine to a 41. 70 mph in 6th is 4700 ish rpm. I can use all the gears vs zipping straight through to top gear and leaving it there. Better Mpg is an added bonus.

I'm curious,

No one has said if you need to shorten the chain when fitting the smaller sprocket. I'm assume not otherwise people would probably have commented already.

Anyone know for certain if there is enough adjustment with the original chain still fitted to accommodate the small sprocket?
Growing old is mandatory, growing up isn't.

Think it also has to do with how many teeth you change....
