Front Wheel bearings
« on: July 26, 2017, 01:48:35 PM »
Changing tyres and when I removed the wheels I noticed that the front wheel bearing was discoloured.  No obvious bearing failure indicators before looking. A bit more digging and the ABS ring side was shot.  Ordered new bearings and seals (£11.65 delivered) and changed them.  Rusty/damaged bearing was very reluctant to come out but eventually gave up to brute force and ignorance.

18k miles, not a user of pressure washers for the bike, but do ride in all weathers.  Worth checking your bike's bearings when you change tyres, if you don't already.
Regards

Always worth doing a visual on brake disc hubs for any sign of rust dust.

A chap on another forum threw all the grease out of his front bearings with a tank-slapper.    Never realised that was a possibility !
