BkeVis Bullets
« on: July 30, 2017, 06:59:39 PM »
Just fitted these LED bullets to the reflectors on the forks. After much trial and error I decided that this location would give me my best daylight visibility option. I have 2 bullets on each side and they are in turn wired to 'pod mods' that make them 'glint' for better visibility. I decided that I wanted them linked to the DRL so that they don't come on at night, they are possibly too bright for nighttime use, especially with them 'glinting'? So they are ultimately wired to a new Fuseblock and triggered via a NC relay to come on only when the dipped beam switches off. This effectively makes them come on and switch off exactly in time with the main DRL. It also means that it works on manual or auto DRL switching. Super bright despite their small size!

I like these small bright lights - very inconspicuous except from in front!

Did you cut into the DRL circuit to fit the NC Relay? I assume there is no way of switching based on sensing the current from outside the wire without having to cut it?

There is not enough voltage in the DRL circuit to switch a relay. BUT, because when the DRL comes on the dipped beam is switched off I was able to used the dipped beam headlight circuit to switch a 'NC (normally closed) relay. The dipped beam 12v positive keeps the relay open while the light is on. But, when it is switched off, because the DRL has activated, the relay closes and operates the bullets. It works really well and is completely in sync with the DRL. It took a whole weekend to figure out how to work it, but it has been achieved by only tapping one wire and not affecting the CanBus in any way.

This is a great mod.

Do you have any links to the parts used, please ?
