Ambient temperature
« on: August 20, 2017, 06:32:19 AM »
I'm sorry if this has been raised before but a search didn't bring anything up.
When I scroll to ambient temp. On my navigator vi there's no reading. Also, does anyone know of a more detailed operation manual for it that includes the use of the handlebar scroll wheel.

Cheers

Does your bike display show intake temperature when you toggle to the 'info' screen?   I would imagine that is where the Nav takes its signal from?

Not all sensors are available on the SXR. I had a K1600GT and there all sensors were shown. E.g. Tire pressure sensors are also missing. I am not sure which are there or are missing.

Cheers

Yes, it is not available on the network, so the GPS doesn't show it.

I leave my display set to show intake temp, and just subtract 2 deg off it for rough ambient.

Hi there, do you mind going into a bit more detail?  I just picked up my 2017 S1000XR, and was shocked that it doesn't have an ambient temp reading.  I don't have the GPS unit, but it is pre-wired for one.  I came off a 2009 K1300S, which had that as well as tire pressure sensors (another shocker that's missing).

WTF?  This is a premium model in their lineup - how come they left those two things off?

Doesn't the 17 model have an ambient temp readout?

Not on mine, as I have already indicated.  Dealer confirmed as well.

You didn't say how you leave your display to show intake temp?

Leave it on the info screen.  You get inlet temp.

Oh, that temp...  I thought that's the coolant temp or something.  I've only ridden my bike for a couple of hours since I got it, but IIRC, it quickly climbs and sits around 100°C.  How is that helping you figure out the ambient temperature?

As an aside, has anyone heard of the reason why BMW didn't put it on this premium bike?  My reaction was WTF, after having had it on my 09 K1300S...  Same with the tire pressure sensors that are Included on cheaper bikes, like the F700GS.

No, that is coolant temp  - there is another readout that shows inlet temp.
