Has anybody gone with an aftermarket steering damper?
« on: August 31, 2017, 03:06:10 AM »
First, I find the XR to be extremely stable/ never tossed around/ totally confident inspiring when on the freeway's/ long stretches, at speeds of 70 to very low triple digits. It's only on those rare occasions of some high-speed stuff, I feel some wandering with the XR. Anyway, has anyone replaced the OEM steering dampener with an aftermarket one, if so is there an improvement with less "wandering" in the high-speed department?

I feel some wandering with the XR.

Hmmm.... you sure it's the steering damper though ?

Could well be head bearing (both too loose and too tight) or even tyres for that matter.

My suggestion, in order to minimize that issue is to drop the front around 10mm. I have an ohlins fitted also, but i really noticed a difference when i dropped the forks.
But if you insist...
