very slight fron fork leak
« on: September 08, 2017, 03:44:19 PM »
Hi all,
Anyone had an issue with a leaking fork leg ?
Maybe I'm getting paranoid in my old age but sure mine has a very slight weep from the right leg after a long ride. I get a 'ring' at the bottom of the leg's travel but only on the right leg. I've wiped it clean 4 times but it keeps re appearing. Shown it to some biker pals who agree it's almost like the right leg is 'misting' the tube/station very slightly.
My local dealer (Vines of Guildford who supplied the bike) say they cant look at it without putting it on a ramp due to product law, not even to say - 'ur being blonde fella' by walking out from the behind the service desk & looking on their forecourt !!! wtf ???
comments please (about the possible leak & not Vines).
Cheers

The reason why Vines want it on the ramp to look at it because as with mine their was more going on than just the seal,as for Vines  :002: best dealer in the country so lucky you.

I also had a slow weeping in the seal on one fork at 6,000 miles.  I had the dealer replace them both under warranty due to the low mileage.  I pointed out the BMW manual says to replace the fork oil at 18,000 miles so they expect them to last at least that long.

I believe several people have had the same issue.

On my xr 2017, also purchased from Vines, I had exactly the same issue on the right fork leg. Apparently, in my case, it was simply 'installation' grease around the dust cover coming off and its not a leaking seal.

Im keeping my eye on it to see if it returns.

On my 2015 XR, purchased from Bahnstormers, I had exactly the same issue on the right fork leg. Apparently, in my case, it was simply 'installation' grease around the dust cover coming off and its not a leaking seal. it only show on that side, mine has 34,000 miles as seals still ok

Same on my 2015 xr right fork leg (non ESA). Came on at about 19500 miles.  Tried the youtube fix with the plastic tool (home made cut out of a plastic milk bottle), seems to have worked, back to a slight haze only with no rings.
