Top case locking mechanism- HELP!!!
« on: September 10, 2017, 06:48:33 PM »
I bought a BMW top case from a member of another forum and I can't access the tumblers. The pic shows all I have to work with. I need to remove the tumblers from the lock casing  and I don't have the original key. Does anyone know how to do this?

Need more info pal, if it's a case  :008: of just replacing the barrel on an open box to make it key unique then it should be easy. I've done it with panniers, easy once understood

you can still do it for me. I"m close to the airport  :001:

The box is locked closed. The only thing I have is the two parts in my pic. So yes the box is locked close. Must have been shut closed when it was shipped. I"m screwed aren't I?

Check that. I just opened the box by pressing the locking mechanism inside the lock insertion. I don't think it will do me much good. but it is unlocked.

Fantastic, send it over. And yes, you're screwed...so u might as well try and take it apart from the outside.
I'd certainly have a go, the barrel in the case will have a thin cover over it, once prized off you need to access the bottom of the barrel, at 6 o'clock  ( but you can do it now  :745: ).
There will be a small lug keeping the barrel in place, force upwards it'll pop the barrel out, use a thin strong flat screwdriver

Good luck  :028:

ffs, after all the typing.

Right, take it apart from inside, photograph each stage so u can put it back together. My pics of doing this to the panniers are on the forum

hahaha.. sorry about that  :034:

There's nothing to take apart from the inside. It's a solid wall. I have to get the tumblers out of that plastic case it's in.

Put your key in the barrel, there should be a half moon shape retaining clip holding the barrel in the black casing, push upwards and the cylinder will come out with your key..
