Stopping keys scratching
« on: October 23, 2017, 01:47:38 PM »
Is anyone using some sort of protection around the ignition area to prevent scratching from anything else, e.g. house key ? Currently having to carry other keys around separately, recipe for forgetting them in my old age !

I've just put my 'XR key on a carabiner clip that I can detach from other keys to prevent the bulk of them from swirling around my ignition.  I too get annoyed at senseless scratching of my beautiful Teutonic Rocket.

I wouldn’t put many other keys on the same key ring as I’ve seen examples of the metal section coming away from the plastic/key. I only have two other keys on the same key ring. I put rubber tube on the other keys - no scratching at all.

Agreed. I had it on my Harley and the multistrada has it. Now I forget to take the keys out half the time !

Guys, don't put any other keys on the ring with the ignition key.The first week I took mine out I had a nice BMW key ring from the dealer and my padlock key on there and the top half of the key flew off on my ride out and I lost them all. BMW dealer refused to replace saying they never heard of that before, but I have since found it is a common problem   :232:

Single key, and a foam-rubber fob, with a paracord tail.
