TEN TOP-SELLING BIKES 2017
« on: October 29, 2017, 10:04:35 AM »
Just squeezing in to the top ten.......

The S1000XR, with 496 registrations:

"When it first appeared the XR looked like a bit of an oddball. Not quite a sports-tourer, not quite an adventure bike, its jack-of-all-trades nature has actually made BMW’s best-selling four-cylinder this year. It was last year as well, but in the first half of 2016 rather more were sold – 626 of them to be exact – so it’s a bike that, despite reaching the top 10, illustrates the overall drop in the bike market pretty clearly."

My dealer sells all major metric brands, including BMW and Ducati. I don't have the numbers, but most of their sales the last few years, are in the premium market (BMW, Ducati).

I'll have to see how things are fairing, as far as XR sales. I do know that since the financial down turn around 2009, 2010 here in the states, their sales dropped from 3000 plus units per year, to around 800 units. That's a major drop. They feasted for years, but don't see the numbers coming anywhere near the past again. It looks like the market in the UK is similar according to the arrticle.

Now wait all those GS's that will sell due to the new tacho.

Probably now BMW will think about an improvement on the XR for the end of 2018 as sales would drop maybe more due to GS and others?

I don't think BMW are too worried about the GS eclipsing their other models, to be honest.

And the new TFT dash, with huge tacho scale...........  Who the hell looks at their tacho??  after a few miles when you buy the bike - you just sense the revs.

Only look at the tacho when the white lights flash
