Garage turntable, great bit of kit
« on: December 30, 2017, 11:52:23 AM »
Nice Xmas present. No more pushing the bike backwards out of the garage and over my gravel driveway. Spin it round in the garage, ride out. Bliss  :002:
Also available on ebay. note, two types one with brake lever, mk II with four stops on wheels, which is the one I have.

They are pretty handy, for sure - but, you need a fairly smooth surface especially if you are pushing the bike forwards (as it can come off the centre stand if the castors dig in.)

I have one and I can confirm Mareng1's comment - The XR can come off its stand quite easily.

I find it best to roll the rear wheel onto a piece of wood (about 1" thick) then get the stand down on to the trolley, then up onto the stand.

I've been looking for something for yonks with no joy.

My garage is carpeted so a larger wheel is needed..or something else, stumped me upto now.

I've seen the odd bod stick it on the centre stand then pull the weight onto one side and spin the bike...funny how the centre stand then became twisted  :112:

I would advocate extreme caution in using any centre-stand mover on carpet.

Even with large castors - the wheels will start to creep the carpet until a 'ridge' is formed.   It's fine when you are reversing the bike, but sooner or later - it will happen as you push the bike forward, and it comes off the centre-stand.
You may catch it.......   :028:
You may lose it and it falls away from you........ :087:
You may end up with the bike on top of you, in a tight space.........  :005:

If you just want a straight turntable - there are some which use PTFE discs between steel plates.  Those are the only types I would use on carpet.

I have one.  I used to use it for a Pan European, and it was rock solid.

Now, with the XR, and the significant weight drop, I don't trust the center stand to not fold when pushing forward.

Before I enlarged my workshop ( man cave ). I used a Turn Table Worked really well but you cannot move the bike backwards or forwards just turn it around ect. Really great if you want to ride into the Work shop then put it on the turn table to face it in the right direction to get out.

I just lean mine onto 1 leg of the stand & spin it on that, works fine, used to do it with my GS also.
