High Speed Wobble?
on: April 23, 2018, 06:00:41 AM
Has anyone else noticed a slight wobble at higher speeds?  I noticed around 100 to 110 MPH, 170 KPH, I get a slight wobble.  I don't know if it is my tires, bike design or the lack of a steering damper.  Anyone else having this and if so, any corrections?

I'm running Pirelli Angles GT.  I didn't have this on my Multistrada.

Thanks

In what track are you getting these speeds? :001:

This has been discussed ad nauseam (my chance to use a latin phrase) about this bike. Some people experience it, other don't, and this bike does have a steering damper. In my case I've never experienced a wobble that has worried me, and I've taken mine north of 150 mph in several occasions. I have forgotten that I'm riding with my top bag in a couple of occasions, so the bike starts feeling weird around 130 mph.  :016:

No wobbles here either... despite riding upside down and +230km/h occasionally  :305:
Running the Conti Sport Attack 3 now and solid as a rock... was the same on the original Battlax.

With a top box on ?

I was actually on the autobahn in Germany (I really was) and I found with the top box its pretty unstable at high speeds (120mp+) without it its fine.

No wobbles here, even with the panniers on bike is very stable.
I would start with checking wheel balance is correct then look at the tyres.

No issues here either. 130 plus with a pillion and no worries.
Just because my path is different, it doesn't  mean I'm lost.

Solo with the top box and no panniers I have gotten some rowing around 130-135mph. But found if I simply push through it it smooths back out at 140-145 with all bags or 2 up It doesnt occur

This was exactly that, no panniers and just a topbox and a bit of weaving etc, was probably about that speed too.

My 2016 did do it from 100 ~ 130mph one and two up did {on a private road or a closed road:038: under very hard acceleration it was pronounced.

I've since dropped the front forks thought 30mm all seams good now, and it's added a bit of feel on the front end which is not a surprise.
After over thirty + years behind the bars, there's still lots to do and see.
