Key fob failure
« on: April 29, 2018, 12:32:43 PM »
Hi All

Bit of a warning for people really, though interested if this has happened to anyone else.

Riding along yesterday and I thought I saw something in my peripheral vision fall off the  bike. Looked and could not see anything wrong.

Got to my destination and realised the key had come apart and my fob with the pannier keys had gone.

Anyone else had this issue. Luckily I do carry a spare pannier key, my house keys were in the topbox !!!

Cheers

Bazzer

I am thinking I might forgo the bling BMW branding that clips over the top and put something secure through that hole in the key !! Will be a pain not to be able to put the pannier/topbox key on a fob together.

I never attach anything else to the ignition key, I hate to see stuff bouncing around and marking up the bike. So perhaps this is one issue i won't have.

Yeah keeping your ignition key separate is great if you

a) Don't have panniers or a top box
b) They are BMW and use the same key.

If not then the chances of you getting miles from home without the pannier key at some point are very close to 100%

:-)

Easy answer to that is keep a spare top box or pannier key locked under the seat, as long as you have your ignition key, then no problem.

Thats exactly how I got my house keys out of the topbox :-)

Problem with that is, you will ride off with the key in the pannier or top box !!!
