What do you want to see in the next S1000XR?
« on: May 25, 2018, 04:35:27 PM »
So the S1000xr has been out since 2015, meaning it's roughly 3 years into its lifecycle. In 2017 we saw minor updates as a result of Euro 4 regs, but I don't count this as a "facelift", rather a "model year (MY)" update.
I work in the automotive design industry and I'm aware of how product life cycles work - I think the S1000xr is due a facelift within a year (or two at most). The GS has recently got some new tech updates that will probably trickle down to the XR too.

So, my question is, what would you want to see in the "facelift" XR?

My list would be:

 - Better handlebar anti-vibration solution (I have a MY17 XR and it's not great)
 - Full colour dash, similar to the new GS dash
 - LED headlights, like the GS (but in the XR styling)
 - Keyless ignition
 - Styling updates to keep it looking modern
 - More comfortable seat
 - Pannier mountings built into the rear subframe (similar to the Multistrada)

I think the engine + gearbox are fantastic as they are, but they'll probably get tweaked too. The chassis set up is also great, so I'm not too fussed about an update on this

Laser beams!   Defo - laser beams! :046:

Otherwise - be nice if they had a 'cheapish' option of light wheels off the RR.

Nothing else.

Agree with most of the suggestions ...but if they copy the ideas then please do it German quality... They will probably update styling but not sure how...

the multi had color tft sceen for a while and its logical next step for most bike dashboards it is not really vital ... Is it

Also Duc had keyless but was more like useless ... Near my phone and it did not work at all ...

They could not even get the fuel gauge to work ... crapped out on me with it showing 120 miles left in the tank.

1. TPMS
2. Lower range 1st gear, higher range 6th gear
3. Height-adjustable seat (or room to move front-back) or adjustable foot levers
4. Ambient air temperature reading
5. More than two wind screen positions
6. Free after trade-in

All of the above except keyless ignition plus:

- removable pannier frame
- smoother slow running
- HP brake & clutch levers as standard
- HP seat as standard
- easier way to disable alarm
- HP chain adjuster as standard
- hotter heated grips
- better tyres than the T30's supplied
- ambient temp gauge
- larger foot for side stand
- user adjustable time to off for indicators

Haven't had 2018 too long, but.....

TPM
Hydraulic Clutch
LED Lights All Around
Solution for Handlebar Vibes (Currently using heavy bar weights). Hardly got vibes now.
More information out of instrument cluster (speedometer, clock (not working), fuel, trip info and.......lap times?? C'mon man.)
Adjustable clutch lever. (What were they thinking?) I installed a set of Synto's)
Redesign ass end. It's hanging down like an appendage they didn't know where to put.

Most of what’s been mentioned
Adjustable levers as standard
Hydraulic clutch
More adjustment of suspension like soft , normal, and hard
Better seat / height adjustable
Shaft drive with single sided swing arm

Not bothered about colour screen
Basically a gs with xr performance would suit me 😂

1) Better headlights.  LED would good but, needs a better beam distribution for sure.  Could include driving lights.
2) More aero front profile - less beak
3) Taller, more adjustable windscreen
4) Better (color LCD) info/guage cluster
5) Bigger side-stand foot.  How ridiculous is the one currently supplied??
6) I'd like to see a better (less ADV-styled) front fairing.  Wider with more coverage.  The XR isn't really an ADV bike.  Put a sport-touring fairing on her.

Pretty close to perfect already...

I’d go for
1. sharper front with angel eye led DRL
2. Vibration fix
3. Up the BHP and torque to rival the KTM
4. TFT with sat nav
5. Clutch lever, shorter and lighter
6. Better pannier frames
7. Update quickshifter and all electronics.
8. Corner lights
But all these are small issues as my 16 XR is awesome!
We just always want more  :305:
