I generally use a Waitrose bag as, as you say, the BMW ones are very expensive. Will be interested to hear if there are any cheaper alternatives

Unsure as to whether the Shad inner bags will fit the original BMW cases (Shad manufactures the cases for BMW in Spain) so might be worth a look.
Their inner bags are good quality IMO...

I bought from a eBay seller, custom inners for our bags at a fraction of the cost. Can't remember the name though, but a search should find it.
Well look at that

in the UK too.

The panniers are not guaranteed to be waterproof but they don’t take in any rain water that I’m aware, but BMW only guarantees them to be water proof if ou use the inner bags

Hey KSW
I've a set of the inner bags
https://www.ebay.com/itm/PANNIER-LINER-BAGS-INNER-BAGS-TO-FIT-BMW-S1000XR-PANNIERS/291561664077?hash=item43e26dee4d:g:B3cAAOSw8w1X6s1I
they work great I've done 3000+ miles in sun and unfortunately some rain
and they have worked great for the cost

I must admit, I baulked at the price of the BMW bags, but I have to say, they are very good quality and a perfect fit.
Look waterproof too (not had a chance to test that!)

As savagefox stated the panniers are not gauranteed waterproof unless used with the inners. I bought the inners and have ridden through what seemed like a monsoon and not one leak.
They are easy to take into hotel etc when travelling and also fit perfectly so when the missus buys more stuff, you know if it will fit or not
i would say worth the money.
