Ticking? Cam chain tensioner????
« on: July 06, 2018, 07:56:18 PM »
Hi all, quick on.
So at 3500-4100rpm the engine sounds a light noise above the normal engine noises.
It’s a metallic high pitched engine noise, any ideas?
Cam chain tensioner? ? ?
Any warranty fixes on this if it is it?
Any ideas previous issues?
Cheers all  :024:

Hmmmm....a loose cam chain (faulty tensioner) usually shows at cold start-up, rattles for a few seconds then goes away as oil pressure comes up.....a persistent rattle higher up in the rpm range may be camshaft rattle....there were quite a few earlier RR's which suffered this issue....but haven't heard of it much on XR's or R's.

There was also some talk of clutch baskets causing some rattling noises....either way it should be warranty.

3500/4100 how do you know can you hear when riding and I assume you have plugs in or revving the spuds off it at standstill?

Trying to look for the plus’s how close are you to an oil change and how hot is the weather.

Down side look on the other website I think their have been either two or three that have done camshafts

It’s also possible it’s camchain tensioner but their just guess’s till you get it back home.

I run slightly heavier oil in mine...10w40 in warm weather....instead of the normal 30....might help a bit with a few noises. But the stock oil should be fine.
