When I bought the bike 2 months ago I was a bit put off with having bars on there bike, but two months in and I don’t even notice them...
on my last bike, the bike fell to the right side at 5mph, hit the engine case, broke it off completely (all 7bolts split in half) as the engine was gear and became unaligned it broke off 5 teeth... see photo attached to see what I mean as I am not big on mechanics...
Basically what looked like a very simple repair to replace the engine case became a write off with a BMW repair estimate of over 9K when the bike was worth 7.5K
Ended up selling tons mechanic for 4.5K and took the 3 grand loss...
In short, bikes where the engine is expose like naked bikes or our beloved XR, get engine bars, the bungs will not protect your engine should it fall on a rock or hump of some sort which was what happened to me...
I’m now considering to paint my OEM bars Matt black to make them more discrete...
To mount/dismount the bars I believe the fairing has to come off as 2 bolts are located behind them in a very tight place
