I fitted, or rather had fitted, the OEM crash bars. I looked at various but was persuaded to fit the BMW bars after seeing Cuban Riders crash on YouTube. If you haven’t seen it recommend you watch it. The BMW bars are not easy to fit, others maybe are, but to me that indicates that the others are more cosmetic than functional. I could be wrong. I had a very slow speed incident recently and they protected the bike very well.

Thanks for that. I just watched the video and they are very impressive. I started off looking at them and was put off by the price. I'll definitely look again and see if I can squeeze the dealership on their price a bit.

When I bought the bike 2 months ago I was a bit put off with having bars on there bike, but two months in and I don’t even notice them...
on my last bike, the bike fell to the right side at 5mph, hit the engine case, broke it off completely (all 7bolts split in half) as the engine was gear and became unaligned it broke off 5 teeth...  see photo attached to see what I mean as I am not big on mechanics...
Basically what looked like a very simple repair to replace the engine case became a write off with a BMW repair estimate of over 9K when the bike was worth 7.5K
Ended up selling tons mechanic for 4.5K and took the 3 grand loss...
In short, bikes where the engine is expose like naked bikes or our beloved XR, get engine bars, the bungs will not protect your engine should it fall on a rock or hump of some sort which was what happened to me...

I’m now considering to paint my OEM bars Matt black to make them more discrete...

To mount/dismount the bars I believe the fairing has to come off as 2 bolts are located behind them in a very tight place

That’s exactly what I want to do, where did you did it and how much did it cost? I’m having a VERY HARD time finding where to do it.... would you be able to share a photo once the bike is assembled?

I’ll be interested to see how the PC lasts because the bars are plated so the PC doesn’t key in so well,at one stage I was going to get them anodised black but in the end thought sod it and just put them on.
