tank pads
« on: July 25, 2018, 05:06:08 AM »
I know there have been some other posts, but I here is my solution.  I love the Snake Skin tank pads, I put them on the black plastic areas.  Does anyone have a great one-stop solution?

I was still getting scratching on the center paint below the gas tank.  I was also missing the knee recess areas. I tried Wunderlich knee pads.  I wish they matched or Snake Skin had knee recesses, but I don't know if anyone else notices the difference.  They also could have a closer fit.

Between the two of them, I love them during riding and no more scratching on the paint.

Looking good. Am I correct in thinking they are TechSpec Gripsters ?

You are correct at the grip around the black plastic.

The knee pockets and pad below the gas tank trim are Wunderlich.

I think it would be great if they matched...

Blimey... you must have some seriously long legs to manage to fit your knees into those "knee pockets"...?
I'm 6'2 (of normal proportions  :008:) and don't get my knees into the tank recess.
Got myself the Snake Skins too and better value under hard braking than just the original lower tank surround...

I’m a little disappointed the black plastic parts on the tank, including around the fuel filler, seem to mark very easily and don’t clean up too well either.  I noticed that the demo bike I took out looked quite shabby around these areas and was surprised to hear that it was only 1 month old!

Having seen this thread, I looked for a UK supplier of TechSpec products and found that Speedycom had the HF material tank grips on offer, so £30 later here they are.

I would if Ilmberger’s price for that part alone wasn’t £270

Which ones did you get?

The whole front end of my bike is Ilmberger, plus the rear tank pad, ignition surround, front fairing infills, front guard and hugger. Yes they are horrendously expensive.😣😣

Martin - I agree on the black plastic parts getting scratched.

I like the look of the pads you did as well, but they did the same as my Snake Skin and just gave protection on the black plastic.  No protection on the tank between the pads and the gas plastic or in the knee recesses.  I don't know why no one has a full kit to protect these areas I hit when riding agressively (not necessary most of the time, but when when going hard I was scratching these areas).
