Clunking Noise Under Bike
« on: July 31, 2018, 03:20:54 PM »
I've noticed occasionally a clunking noise coming from underneath my bike, sometimes when I ride it down the ramp out of the garage but also recently during a simple low speed 90 degree turn. I don't think it's a clearance issue but was wondering if anyone else has experienced this or has any idea what it could be?

Don't think it is, literally the ramp is a gentle slope with some suspension travel but pretty sure it's not catching, went on some pretty bumpy roads up Scotland the other week and heard nothing, as for the left handed it was off a main road onto a narrow side road so low speed and little lean

I have the same on mine, on humps and Ramps.
As you’re front wheel clears the ramp and then your rear wheel “hits” the bottom of the ramp, depending on how hard it hits it will make your centre stand lower a bit and the spring will pull it back up to close so you will definitely hear a clunk noise, try going down the same ramp at 0.001mph  :430: and see if the sound persists

If that's all it is I'm happy with that, was worried it was something to do with a loose suspension bolt or something  :062:

Have you checked the chain tension?

How many miles have you done and what age is the bike ?Just wondered if it could be worn head stock bearings or a fork seal starting to go although being USD forks, they’d probably leak once the seal started to go...

2017 bike with 5000 miles on it. Chain tension is fine.

Can’t see it being bearing related then, just a thought....
