New front USB socket fitted
« on: August 03, 2018, 06:43:35 PM »
Fed up of looking for a suitable (similar diameter) socket to fit in place of the Din socket as fitted from the factory. Bit the bullet and drilled out the existing fairing panel to fit a new twin USB socket with an integrated LED voltage gauge.Just unplugged the existing item and fed a couple of wires into the existing plug and connected it up... hey presto, nice new USB socket for my phone and GoPro Session camera :028:

Thoughts and comments welcome :152:

Great idea  :028:
Why do BMW still fit DIN sockets anyway!

I use the LH socket with a dual-USB adaptor plug, which cost around £5, IIRC

Never had any problem with water.

That's a good option you have highlighted, though.

i bought a plug in adapter for £2.50 that enlarges the bmw din socket to the larger size socket, i use the larger socket for the pump to blow up air beds ect.
i also have an adapter with twin usb which was about £3.

I've just fitted the same socket as the OP...works fine and lets me know my battery voltage as a bonus :028:

Smithy.

Smithy.

Have you wired it direct to battery or switched live?
