Where should I mount a Go-Pro?
« on: September 02, 2015, 01:57:49 PM »
Have had my Go-Pro hero 4 for about a year and have never used it. Would like to mount it up somewhere for a upcoming ride next week. Hitting "the road to the Sun" in Montana. It's a very scenic ride and would love to capture some of it on video. I'm not really into slapping it onto my helmet though. Anyone have experience on a cool mounting spot?

I have a similar problem with my Drift Cam

I have no idea where to mount it and can't see any obvious places without serious modification
You tell me how fast I was going Officer !

Some people mount them behind the indicator, with a longer screw and ram mount.

I once used a roll cage mount on the left fork on a Street Triple had to do a lot of fiddling to get the image right.

The best bike videos I watch almost always have the camera mounted right about your mouth height on the helmet. Every other video drives me nuts and I sit there moving my head around the whole time trying to get a better perspective on the scenery flashing across my monitor.

I have a Garmin Virb and mount it on the offside wing mirror stem using a RAM mount., and mount the remote control using a handle bar mount on the left hand side.

I use RAM mounts on the other bikes a lot, I find them to be great.

Do you have the part number of the mirror mount ?

Cheers

I have used the GoPro Sessions cam with great success on the XR and GSA. On the XR I have applied an adhesive mount to the black panel above the air intake and headlights and low enough to clear the windshield in both positions. It is centered on the bike and provides a very good unobstructed view of the road and scenery. When the cam is not mounted the mount plate blends into the black panel and is not noticeable unless you look for it. This has been the best location for the shooting of a canyon ride with the priority on the road and the scenery. If you don't like it the mounting plate is easy enough to remove with a heat gun and no damage to the motorcycle panel.

Sorry about the rotation of the photos. All the other sites I post to the photos are correctly oriented. I also should mention I have used the GoPro remote with good results. It is mounted to the left mirror stalk using the included wrist strap.

My other cam mount option is the the helmet for a perspective of the rider and overview of the cockpit.
