software reset now got vibes ??
« on: August 15, 2018, 06:38:25 PM »
Help.... i have had my 2015 s1000xr se for 2 yrs and 12000 miles and have had no vibes or buzz problems. Took the bike into a bmw dealer for a couple of things and they came back and said they had reset the "adaptations" which i understand means a software reset. Unbelievably I now have vibes in the foot pegs and handlebars .

Anyone had this problem or any suggestions ?

Is there a chance the vibes will go the more i ride the bike it the software learns/adapts ?

Seriously, cant imagine how  software upgrade could suddenly cause vibrations, more likely something mechanical was adjusted  :305:

If the problem truly is a consequence of resetting adaptive values, then it should come good within a couple of hundred kms.
That's why they are called adaptive values.
I need to return some videotapes.

Anxious to know how they would "un-do" an adaptation. I have done adaptation resets on the Gear Shift Assist Pro on my GSA using my GS911. After you reset an adaptation, it takes a little bit of time and miles to get computer to adjust the "system" back.
It actually shifted a lot smoother afterwards using the GSAP.

Not possible - same as DTC's, once they have been cleared they cannot be recalled.
Adaptive values are an incremental and cumulative adjustment based on the rider, the bike and riding environment.
They only thing that will restore them is the bike being ridden.
I need to return some videotapes.

thanks all for the replies

The only other thing they did was to replace the back tyre and maybe the chain is tighter than before. Either way I am off to ireland WAW next week so will put plenty of miles on it and based on the comments above, hopefully it should go back to being vibeless . On a plus note, the reset has made the quickshifter a lot more positive and smooth which i had not noticed before.

My XR is a firm keeper  until a new model XR arrives in the future  :152:
