IAM BMW DISCOUNT FOR NEW XR
« on: August 25, 2018, 09:33:35 AM »
For those in IAM I note that they have a deal with BMW where members can obtain a discount of £1500 off the RRP for a new XR SE. Now thats a good discount. Also similar discounts available off other BMW's  :305:

At the risk of looking dumb (it's never stopped me before...), what is IAM?  I am (ha) in the US, so maybe doesn't apply to us over here.

You have to pass a test to get the Certificate. This expires after 3 years and you have to take it again.

There is a 1:1 mentoring programme to get you to the required standard for the test.

I am aware that the ROSPA pass has to be redone every three years but when did the IAM introduce the re-test requirement?

AFAIK standard IAM membership is the same as it’s always been, pass the test and full membership is yours for life.

Some time ago, they introduced a fellowship status which requires a retest every 3 years.  I’ve thought about it a couple of times, but decided to stick with my standard membership.  My IAM club offers observed rides to all members to enhance their skills after passing, so I’ll use that if I feel the need for refresher training.

As above, the IAM scheme offers the opportunity to receive 1 to 1 training from a qualified observer to improve your riding skills and safe riding, with verification via a 1 hour skill test. Its a very good scheme and relatively inexpensive. In the UK most areas have IAM affiliated clubs which provide the training and are also social clubs with organised events and ride outs.  :305:

No problem, I know that the IAM were talking about re-testing and in my humble opinion it would not be a bad idea. I have a very elderly neighbour who still gets a discount on his insurance as he passed his IAM cat test in the early 1970's and he is a serous collision waiting to happen!
