Having ridden the latest multistrada too, I think this report was a fair assessment. I also agree that the XR wins, hands down!!

What they found out is exactly what I did the day I went to a Ducati Dealership to buy my new Multistrada. That night I had a S1000XR parked in my garage.

No surprises, any objective reviewer that has ridden both would come to the same conclusion. A test ride on the Multistrada confirmed that the engine was not at all smooth. One would have to learn to ride around the abrupt power band.
