Metzeler Sportec M7 RR
« on: September 15, 2018, 12:17:17 PM »
Need to buy some new tyres soon. Currently have Continental Road Attack 3 which have lasted well but wanted to try something with a little more grip.

Thinking about Metzeler Sportec M7 RR. Does anyone have any experience or comments to offer please. What mileage can be expected? :305:

Had a pair on my GSX-S (same sizes as the XR) and they transformed the bike.  Loads of dry grip and really confidence inspiring, wore them almost to the edges on my ‘scrubbing in’ ride straight after fitting them.  Didn’t ride them much in the wet, but they felt good in the wet too.  Had them on for about 2000 miles before I sold the bike and they didn’t seem to be showing much wear at all.  The rear wasn’t showing any signs of squaring off either.

What suited the GSX-S may not suit the XR, but my thinking at the moment is that I’ll be fitting a pair to the XR when the originals are spent.

Oh dear.
My local tyre place relates this advise/anecdote:

“Be careful on the new tyres, and scrub them in gradually”

“They’ll be scrubbed in by the time I get to the end of the car park! “

“:Hang on - I’ll just get my dustpan and brush”

I had some fitted to my XR in July.....posted this on another thread

After a motorway trek to Plymouth from North wales, 7 days of twisty mountain riding in the Picos in Northern Spain, and a motorway trip back from Portsmouth I can say the Metzler M7RR's are an excellent tyre.
Excellent grip, good wear, feel planted and solid in the bends
Covered 1600 miles
No rain test.....yet

covered another 1100 miles since back from that test

Tyres are wearing well, still got a couple of thousand miles left in them
Perform well in this colder weather and feel confident in the wet & damp
Heat up well
I would definitely have another pair

So 2700 miles on them and you think you have a few 1000s left !! Incredible.

Judging by how they have worn so far, they are going to last as long as the previous michelin power 3's
I'm no tyre expert, just looking at what I've done on them and how they look now

All shots of rear centre
Front is wearing same, so these would need swopping as a pair unlike some other tyres I've used
