« on: November 19, 2018, 10:02:53 PM »
It's a sudo poll really to see how far I will be able to ride on my tour next May, so want to cover ground no mountains and plenty of motorway & dual carriageway 1st day !
So how far have you gone ?

Ill bite. The day I bought my bike, rode it from Florida to my home in Tennessee. Almost 700 miles, 500 or more in pouring rain.

I thought I had done 505 miles in a day last year on holiday, but now not so sure,

But - having done that mileage easily on an R1200GSA on several occasions, with similar luggage and on similar routes - I would have no concerns about planning a 500-600 mile day.

The biggest concern about that sort of mileage would be ensuring that the planned departure time was not subject to late ferry docking etc.   Now, we like to get a ferry to (say) Caen in the afternoon, and overnight at a cheap motel there.  It allows a departure as early as you like, the following day.

A couple of years ago, we had a 500 mile day from Amsterdam down to Dijon area - and got delayed by docking, pal’s bike needing jump-started off the ferry, and a 2hr delay on Brussels ring road with a nackered battery.   Got to the hotel after 9pm, which spoiled what was normally - an easy day  :021:

I just recently did a 900km day on the XR on the way back from the Australian MotoGP round.

First 400 was twisties and scenic roads followed by a 500km run of motorway to get home fast.

It was great. Just did the odd stint standing to stretch all the vital bits...

Last year I did Sydney to Brisbane in two days... but then did it in one day on the journey home - 925km.
I need to return some videotapes.

Ok not as much as some but two up with the pans and topbox "full of her shoes" Ashford in Kent to Marlhes, France in one hit 570 miles give or take three re-fills four coffees.
All I'll say is the cruise control is a god send on the French motorways :028:

This year we did Ashford to Épinal, France, all but 100 miles off the motorway 380 miles easy riding.

PS I don't live in Ashford it's just we get a good price on the Hotel we stay in.
After over thirty years behind the bars, I’ve still not done it all or seen it all.
