Auxilliary Brake Lights
« on: September 19, 2015, 03:12:48 AM »
I tried to install the Signal Dynamics Knight Riderz (KR) Auxilliary Brake Light on my XR and ran into a voltage issue.  The Knight Riderz LEDs are designed to sequence back and forth until you brake, at which time the LEDs flash bright red for a few seconds, then stay bright red.  However, on the XR they remain bright red and do not reset when you release the brake.  Apparently that's because the brake light voltage does not return to zero volts when you release the brake; it returns to 1.35 volts which is not low enough to reset the Knight Riderz brain.  So, I modified the hookup by connecting the Knight Riderz blue (running lights) wire to the XR's brake light wire.  Now the Knight Riderz stays dormant until I brake, then sequences back and forth until I release the brake.  I think it still serves the purpose of getting people's attention when I brake.
