I have a GS1250 itch, thoughts???
« on: January 09, 2019, 09:44:47 AM »
Hi all,
So it’s probably just me but seeing all the new reviews of the GS1250 and never owning one I have a little itch to get one.

Anyone tested the 1250 yet? Thoughts compared to the XR???

I love my XR, best bike I’ve had! interested to know how much power the 1250 has in comparison especially if it was remapped to add a bit more.

Guessing the new XR shift cam will be in the pipeline dare I say 19 - 2020, so that will scratch any GS itch I’m sure

I’d advise a LONG test-ride in the better weather, on the kind of roads you envisage the use.

You will miss the lower inertia of the XR wheels, the ability to fit pure sports tyres  - with the only benefit (I can see) is the ultimate load carrying ability, and the punch of a twin - low down.

I’m not convinced that the GS has as good a build-quality as the XR, either.

If I was looking at a twin - the KTM1290GT would be at the top of the short-list.

is the only response to your question

whilst there, test ride the RS unless you really have a lust for the Adv bike format. The RS is the best bike with the boxer engine in my view

note, I said best boxer

I can't decide which bike I like the best, the XR or an RS. My solution is to own both, in 2016 versions.

Re. the looks, I actually prefer the pre 2019 RS's asymmetric front and some of the 2019 RS colours are horrid. Extra hp, torque and LED lights are welcome though.

When does your PCP run out?

Shift cam X/R? It will be Big Bang like a twin probably appear the same time as a Yamaha option which is also due.

Net is always the place for bad stories I know of a new 1250 that lasted 180 miles!! They offered a new engine he’s having a new bike.

Couple years yet so hopefully in time for the new XR. Is the S1000RR a twin or in-line 4? Surely will go the same way.
180 miles, doesn’t sound good, must be a rare fault!

New S1000RR  inline four, uprated to 200+ Bhp. Although the XR will almost certainly be a lower Bhp. Cannot wait to see its specs..
Wouldn't take much notice of low milage failures, can happen to any bike. But overall extremely rare. At least you will be covered by an excellent guarantee.
Always nice to look at other bikes.
