Sounds like more of a cam chain rattle rather than rocker tapping...but the tensioner/chain rattle usually only lasts for a couple of seconds after start. Have you had the tensioner out to check it's not sticking in the body..?? Only takes a few minutes to check.

I paid £750 for a 2018 engine woth 2900 miles on it. Was cheaper than sorting out the leaking valves on my original engine.

If you don't know where it is....best you don't play with it.

XR Engines go for WAY less money than RR engines.

I saw a few under 1K back then.

There's plenty of "damaged" RR engines floating around on the interweb....if they've thrown the bottom end it may be worth picking one up to use the RR cyl head & cams on an XR...similar to what our friend Mr Willoughby has done.

I have been looking as thats the plan for my original engine. They are not cheap though, in fact I've yet to see an RR top end for less than I paid for a whole XR engine.

All I really need are cams, springs and valves.

Cheers

You might get away with just the cams...limit the rpm to 13,500rpm instead of 14,500....might work. :027:

Possibly but don't see the point for the effort. The power is up the top with the RR cams. It's also great to see the needle sweep off the clocks like Jason's  :)
