Oil use
« on: October 20, 2015, 03:52:11 AM »
Just wondering if anyone out there if finding that they are going through oil and having to top off on a regular basis.  If so how much are you finding that you need to add per mileage ridden?
Many people ride.....but for a select group of people it's more than a ride....it's one of life's great passions.

Hey fgdriver......
That is great to hear.  So often with new models you hear all kinds of stories about different rates of oil burn per mileage run.  I know with the 1200S and 1300S there were various amounts of oil burn reported especially in the first 5,000 miles.  Some folks attributed oil loss amounts to the type of break in the owner followed. Then againi some folks reported that they stopped burning oil after the first 5,000 miles.
Haven't heard anything at all about oil burn with this bike and wondered.
Could you give us a break down on what it cost you for the 6,000 mile check in and how that went?

No oil required during the break in 600 miles. After doing the running in service I have accumulated 2000 miles and no change in oil level has been seen. This engine in spite of it's high revving use seems to use very little oil. I expect it will not need any additional oil until the 6000 mile service, but I continue to closely monitor until I am better acquainted with the bike.

Bump!

Also curious what kind of oil use you guys are seeing as time/miles builds up. I always like to keep a close eye on it so I know how much oil to expect to add on a trip.

So far 150mL per 1000mi. Currently have 4500 miles on it. Not much at all, but not nothing. Riding style is pretty much all mountain roads, mid to high RPM.

I broke mine in fairly aggressive and it hasn't needed an additional drop of oil since new. The most frustrating part of this bike's ownership was to wait for the 600 miles service to remove the 9k rev limiter.

No oil use on mine either...9500kms so far and nothing to note....10k service due soon. They seem to be a good engine.  :028:

40000 plus miles on mine oil usage is negligible. When I'm away on a trip say 4000 miles I carry a small drinks bottle with oil in for top ups.  :002:

25000km. No oil between services although I drop the oil and filter every 5k.
Cheap insurance. Have done with all my bikes.
