2016 S1000XR Braking feature
« on: October 30, 2015, 12:01:47 PM »
BMW have announced in 2015 ( after delivering a lot of bikes to people waiting many months) that the new 2016 model will have a new braking feature on them.

As its likely that this feature is a software one - does anyone know anything about how this works.

Also note: that at some point in the very near future - a keyless option will be offered on the S1000XR - does anyone know anything about this or how the modification can be done?

Perhaps you mean the ABS Pro?  That works in a lean.  In the USA the Premium Package includes DTC and ABS Pro.  They depend on a tilt sensing module to detect the amount of lean and adjust the ABS response and the traction control response accordingly.

no sorry, I meant the following and I quote:
Also included with ABS Pro will be BMW's dynamic brake light system. With the dynamic brake light system the brake light will flash under heavy braking and engage the hazard warning lights once the bike comes to a complete stop.

Stage one will be engaged under heavy braking above 50kmh, while stage two, which includes the hazard warning lights, will engage at speeds under 14kmh. The hazard warning lights will remain on until the bike reaches 20kmh.

The flashing brake light is a load of old bollocks, designed to get people excited. I really don't see the point, and certainly wouldn't pay ANY money to have it on my bike.

Keyless is great, and I have it on my GSA, so I'll tick that box when I get my XR HP4 next year! :001:

If that's a free firmware upgrade on my 2016, I'd have them add it. The idea would be to give someone behind more of a heads up if you are braking hard. Could help prevent a subsequent rear-end crash after avoiding a hazard in front. But you would still want to practice your brake-and-escape skills.

I believe a couple of aftermarket companies will sell you the blinking brake light set-up for your bike now.
Many people ride.....but for a select group of people it's more than a ride....it's one of life's great passions.

I already have a VIZI-Tec one on order.  It is CANBus Plug n Play

It's been on order for 3 weeks now, but seems that it has disappeared in the post.  VIZI Tec are going to ship me another if this one is not received within the next few days.  So no complaints at all about Customer Service.  However, I cannot comment on the product yet.  Hopefully I can soon

I was really happy to see that my 2015 had a key to start it. The keyless types have the tendency to leave you stranded when the battery dies. Not thanks to keyless, I'll stick with a key.
