Where do you get your bike serviced?
« on: May 17, 2019, 05:12:15 PM »
Hi,
Had my bike 12 months and the service light has come on.
Is this a trip to BMW and a second mortgage required or a can i take to somewhere local?
Cheers

Did you buy it new or is it used ? If it's used is it a BMW approved used bike. It does make a difference.

Really depends on the milage. But overall In my area BM dealers are not really that expensive compared to the independents. Unless of course you know of a good one prices are not that far apart. Thats my experience.

What do you think is expensive? A 6000 mile service is around £250 at a BMW dealer.

I just had a 12,000 mile/3 year service on a bike I bought last year. Including an MOT, the invoice was £308. Also included changing the brake fluid. I do not see this as a huge cost as it is only once a year based on my usage (2 bikes so neither does a huge mileage). I used my local dealer, Cotswold Motorrad and had a R1250GS as a loaner.

Wollaston BMW northampton. The customer service is 2nd to none and the showroom has a biker cafe and is also part of the large bmw car showroom. Prices have always been respectable and in no way classed as a rip off. Plus you have the big piece of mind that these guys are working on bmw all day 365 days so they know the bikes inside out whereas a local garage might not have the same extensive knowledge

If it's an approved used you have got to have it serviced at BMW to keep the warranty.

I used to use Rainbow in Rotherham and was happy with them as I’ve had 10 bikes over 20 years and always been happy with the service.  Now taken over by Jeffries and it’s not the same place. Can’t put my finger on it but they are soulless and I decided that after they did my annual service in 2018 that I would look elsewhere.  I’ve just had my 12000 service done at Rainbow Workshop which was set up by Steve Trehern who was the lead tech at Rainbow for years and years. He did a bang up thorough job while I waited although he has a loan bike if needed.  Total cost just £155 but it didn’t need the brake fluid doing.  Highly recommended.

He uses all the correct BMW stuff so you are covered under warranty.
