If you look at the "problem" in a strict engineering form - a larger countershaft sprocket is the best choice.
The problem is there is no direct replacement sprocket available.

My Motorad dealer has suggested that rather than messing with the rear sprocket, its easier/cheaper to change the front one from a 17 to an 18 . . . . . . thoughts ? :-)

As the other chaps have mentioned...your "Motorrad" dealer is an idiot....firstly you can't buy an 18T front sprocket for the S series engines...and secondly....the reason they don't make them is because they don't physically fit... :138:

Just for a few giggles and if you have nothing better to do....I'd ask your dealer to supply and fit one for you.....then sit back and watch what happens.. :112:

When I die, I want to go peacefully in my sleep like my Grandfather....not screaming like the passengers in his car..!

Yep, already tried that, and guess what . . . . . . "sorry sir, we can only fit BMW parts so you'd need to source the sprocket yourself"

Working on the 'idiot' principle as expressed by most, I may as well source and fit a 42/43 rear myself . . . . . . . thanks for the comments all :-)
