Face lift XR 2020
« on: November 21, 2019, 09:15:17 AM »
Hi...
So, saw the new S1000XR at the Bikeshow in Birmingham.
No new engine...didn't get the cam shift engine from the RR as hoped, same frame as well. Not that either NEEDED to be better to be fair.
On a personal note, I was disappointed with the face lift/redesign, prefer the looks of the existing. Only available in Red or primer grey!
My wife was happy that I came away not 'having to have' the new bike.
Disappointed to be honest, but I absolutely love my XR as it is....so not too botthered!!
The new XR will be not selling from a Motorrad dealer near you in June apparently!!
Just a personal opinion...I hope you all disagree!!

With all opinions, they are personal. Plus, many are negative 'falsely' because they still want to love their old bike.

Great ideas to add what they have, but the styling is not for me.

I bought mine with a stonking discount, fully aware of the new model launch and happy I made the right decision.

I went to the bike show Wednesday, have to agree the looks are very slabby and it looks link it has gained 10 lb looking forward, was disappointed, think the 900 looked better and couldn't under what the flimsy bit of plastic on the front are for, someone fell against the bike and it cracked, will keep mine of get one of the last ones with a discount,

Not a facelift. The upcoming XR is completely new. New chassis, engine (although no shiftcam), suspension (the rear is now link less), brakes (Hayes not Brembo) , wheels, electronics, handlebars (smaller and not GS like), dash (TFT now).
Looks fresh but the present XR  looks more aggressive. Check pics of new vs present.
A test ride in the future will show the winner...

Saw it at the NEC today and was underwhelmed, looks OK just not wow!
Nice dash and lights
Didn't like the plastic up the centre of the tank, the pointy bits at the front
Liked the GS more
Just a thought about the non shift cam, bearing in mind BMW are only just trickling S1000RR's through which were ordered last November, maybe their strap line in that the XR doesn't need the shift cam wears a bit thin. They are unlikely to say sorry we can't supply the engines
Didn't think the new Multistrada looked any different
Loved the Fireblade, not having one though. guide price is 19,999, 23 for the SP although they did say that they may change
KTM 1290 and 890 were nice but I'm still not sure as to the reliability as there seem to be one stripped down at nearest dealers everytime I go in
Ducati V2 is lovely, again not for me, like my comfort now
Keep the 2018 XR until I'm ready for a GS  :001:

the new XR looked not that much better when viewed yesterday at the NEC.

The 950 in white is a good deal though, maybe fits a gap in the BMW market.

Going to the NEC tomorrow to have a look. Only had my XR three weeks so still in honeymoon period I can't be unfaithful and start liking the new one. My bank account agrees.

I never thought of the original XR as being particularly good-looking, and the new one is much the same.

Looks a bit different and seems to have the stance of the current lowered model.

If you are in the market for a new XR next year - there’s the bike.

New luggage mounts - Does that mean that Vario panniers fit?   Anyone ask, at the show?

If I was considering the XR or the MS - looks would be secondary, to be honest.

I don't want to bash it either but I do prefer the slender sleek look of the current incarnation to be honest. No doubt it will be a good ride.

Lots of very ugly bikes out there, but if it does what you want then I am sure it will grow on you. Cannot say that KTM are not ugly ducklings their looks take some getting used to, but if the rides good who cares. ........................:041:
