Heart Transplant
« on: November 22, 2019, 05:45:32 PM »
Seeking some counsel from the masses.

I currently have three running motorcycles. A race-only ‘16 RR, a street-only ‘16 XR, and a crashed but fully functional ‘17 RR.

My question: How much madness would it be to swap one of the RR motors into the XR frame? Assuming I swapped the ECU, Cluster, Ignition, etc. All  bikes have the heated grips, cruise, and no DDC.

I’m assuming the loom might be a bit different, along with the potential for losing the wonder wheel function. I can live without it.

Perceived Pros:
1. 200hp
2. 200 F#*%%? HP
2. That’s all

Perceived cons:
1. Potential nightmare of a swap
2. Shift in tractable powerband (will have to regear)
3. Likely need an ecu reprogram to address function

Am I missing anything else? Is it worth it?

You may find the loom is short in some areas, but you have the most important bit covered - you keep the heated grips!

Is there any difference to the traction control, that isnt catered for in the loom?

You might have to hang on a bit tighter on the XR, though.  :028:

Over the years on here their have been one or two modded bike
S with influence from the RR and i’ve Seen several specials built but the deciding factor with modern day stuff is getting your head around the ECU,is what your proposing possible? Most certainly, straight forward? I doubt it.

The torque of the RR and XR are the same....but at vastly different rpm's. You'll loose the bottom end pulling power of the XR.

Good project though...make sure you give plenty of progress reports for us.

I searched (albeit poorly) for a thread like this with no luck.
