Hi and thanks for reading.

How does BMW lower the bike and how does this affect the handling?

Thanks

Factory lowered bikes have different rear shock and different forks....handling is unaffected. Ground clearance is a little less but negligible.

As above, our main complaint which is true of both factory low and standard height bike, is the esa shocks being a bit Woolley and not adjustable enough! I’ve got a factory low and it handles the same as a standard bike. I’ve ridden both :) also the centre stand and side stand are a different length so getting the bike on and off the centre stand is unaffected too.

Had a 2016 XR Standard height, got a Soupys lowered kit fitted to it, 25mm lower. Rode and handled exactly the same.
Got a factory lowered one September 2019, still feels same, goes like hot sh1t and sweeps bends beautifully
Just easier for me to get my feet planted on floor due to the way the seat splays my legs

Hi,
In response to your question I have an 18 plate XR with factory lowered suspension.
It's great, no issues with handling and so much easier to manage when at traffic lights, off camber slopes etc.
If you are slightly challenged with a shorter inside leg then this is the way to go. All the benefits of the awesome XR and without any negatives that I can see.
Cheers,
