Garmin Basecamp with 20.3 Map Update
« on: January 23, 2020, 08:02:13 PM »
I have used basecamp successfully for many years on my Mac but downloaded the latest maps from Garmin last week and note that there are problems with basecamp.
Normally on recalculating existing routes for the new maps the route shown aligns between via points along roads. Now it appears as a series or straight lines between via points and also no time between points information.
Anybody else have the same problem?
My advice would be - dont download the new maps until this is sorted.  :305:

I’ve just updated my maps to 2020.3, albeit on a windows laptop, and it seems fine.
My routes are consistent with the map roads. Have you allowed the map from the sat Nav to load onto basecamp? It took about 5 minutes after reconnecting the sat Nav to my laptop and opening basecamp for it to be completed. You can see progress as it loads up for the first time - under internal storage ‘City Navigator Europe NTU 2020.3’. It should be a moving blue bar as it loads.
While this was happening my maps looked a little strange but then the maps corrected themselves once complete.

Your running basecamp on windows, I am using a Mac. Looks like only Mac users affected. If I roll back to the previous version of the maps it works fine, but you cant do that on the Nav device which may cause problems. We will see :305:

Hi Paul,

I've just found the same problem with mine on the Mac.
It seems fine when you download routes like the ones on RIDE mag's website, but if I create a route, it "straight lines" most of it.
It certainly didn't do that before I did update to my Nav V and the basecamp program.......

I just looked at a forum for Garmin and apparently they are aware of the issue now, something to do with the maps of that size being split in two????

Allegedly, they are expecting a fix by the end of FEB  :164: :164:

Looks like my route planning for my Germany trip in May is on hold  :138:   Hope all the hotels don't get booked  :034: :034:

This happened on the windows version previously too - there were two maps, north and south Europe, which meant depending on which countries you were setting routes for they often had to be created in several parts. When I went across Luxembourg, Belgium and Germany last year I often had to piece together several different routes as it wouldn’t snap to roads when I created just one. Simple enough to do and just had to be clear when naming them which order they were in, but a bit of a pain!
Now fixed so hopefully they sort the Mac version out now!

I got totally frustrated with Basecamp along time ago and switched to myrouteapp, so much better and easier to use with lots of tutorial videos etc.

I got it cheap back then but its worth it.
Cheers,
