40k miles up

Only 4 water pumps and 3 rear shocks!

Engine runs really well though - just about run-in!

ESA shock   - BMW really shouldn't specify Tesco cooking oil in the rear shock. :192:

The shocks were replaced under warranty - the current one on the BMW extended warranty (only covers suspension up to 36K miles - just got inside that). I had to pay £100 excess for the shock, but because I made a contribution to the replacement, it comes with a 2 year BMW warranty.  I'll get them to check the shock at the next service - they plug it into the diagnostics and it tells them if its shot.

So the shock was changed because the diag said it was kaput or because your backside could feel the difference?

My arse said that things had got a bit bouncy and the handling had gone right off!  (I really noticed it on the N260 in Spain).  The dealer plugged it and said it was knackered.

Blimey the water pumps are bad enough but I’m astonished at the shock, having said that remember years back with my 1100s(which I still have) the original shocks were made in Spain and cost the factory $50.

I replaced my rear shock at 18K miles, it was starting to lose its damping.

There is only a little oil in it and it will break down, having a shock you can't change the oil on is a terrible idea.
