2020 XR Gearing?
« on: May 27, 2020, 06:17:07 PM »
Cruising at 80 MPH with my 2016XR the engine is at 6000 rpm's.
Can someone check their 2020 to compare?
Thanks!

If it's stock gearing on the 16 model, (17/45), that will be correct. If you're worried about it, just fit a 42 tooth rear sprocket and enjoy..!

The 2020 has slightly taller 4th, 5th and 6th internal gears.... so the rpm at the same speed will be less on the 2020.

This is similar to my '17 model now....but I have a 42T rear sprocket.

I am actually going the other way. the worst vibes I feel on my '16 occur between 4500 and 5800 rpm. going to a 47 tooth rear to try to get my 'cruise' out of this rpm range.

Did you have change your chain size? I was thinking of going with a smaller rear sprocket to get the vibes down a bit on the highway. Bike has plenty of torque for me so a little less won't bother me at all when getting a bit of a smoother ride when cruising. I would probably have to have a bike shop do the work. That is a bit more than I can do myself. May not be worth it.

With a 2015-2019 XR, you can go down to a 42T rear sprocket without removing links...but there will be very little rearward adjustment left. I pulled two links from mine and it's right in the middle of the adjustment range. I can just get the 45T on it now... but with very little forward adjustment left...Rear sprocket change only takes about 15-20mins....taking a couple of links out of the chain takes considerably longer.
