Radar detector bracket.
« on: May 21, 2020, 05:39:46 PM »
Made a radar detector bracket.

1/2"x3/4" Alum angle.

pop rivet on 10g sheet metal. Bent for level mount and holders for straps.

Installed longer M4 screws.

Sets to the left of the GPS for quick view.

Side view showing slight bend and straps holding Escort.

Top view. Still have to do final wiring and install radar screamer. Note I have plugged into the accessory plug for power. Have a fuse block but not sure where to get switched power under the seat and not cause a CanBus problem.

Unfortunately radar detectors are illegal in many countries. In Australia there are big fines just for having one fitted to a vehicle, let alone using it.

Illegal here is VA as well. In northern VA running is a problem so pulling over will usually get you a warning instead.

Your bracket and install looks nice!

I'm not as handy so I went a little different route....

If you look closely in this photo, you can see I mounted my radar detector using velcro under the front nose of my XR and use Marc Parnes' Visual Alert product (http://www.marcparnes.com/Visual_Alert.htm) to make sure I'm aware of any alert.  His Visual Alert only works with certain brands/models of detectors, so I actually bought the detector I wanted from his list.

Marc is a member here and at least for a while had an XR (he may still).  Anyway, it's a very clean install and very stealth such that I don't suspect the popo in VA would realize I had a radar unless I slammed on the brakes when he shot me.

FYI Discussion of switched power under the seat.
