And We're OFF!!!!!!
« on: July 25, 2020, 07:25:38 AM »
A bunch of  us are to the Vercors in France today with Freedom Motorcycle Tours, been a long time coming. A few of us have tagged extra days at the start and end to make it an 8 day trip, taking in Saint Quentin, Dijon, then our base in Grenoble for 4 night and then reverse on different roads back.

Never done the Vercors region and can't wait cos it stunning, Feckin hot there at the moment 27-31c.

Be great to just get away and RIDE and empty my head of all the covid nonsense.

Cheers,
Charlie Spiceboy.

Did Vercors couple years ago, very nice region and good roads.
Let us know how you get on in France with regard to places open, restrictions etc. as hoping to go / pass through in Sept.

Looks like Spain is in the Sct again with Corona so it’s two weeks iso when folks come back.

Just as heads up see a post only a few hours old,guy breaks down in his car, phone breakdown and they say car not repairable we’ll bring a low loader, but because of Corona not the owner he’ll have to make his own way home  :005:

The way things are going doubt we’ll make Le-Mans 24 hour Moto next April at this rate.

Got back at the weekend and thought I'd post a quick tour update.

I must say it was a most enjoyable trip and way better than I was expecting, given the circumstances of Covid etc.

Eurotunnel - Arrived a bit early and not much open in the terminal but jump on any train you like when you're ready.
Hotel stops in St Quentin, Dijon and then our base was Grenoble for 4 nights. We had to get used to wearing a mask quickly as France was ahead of us on that front. Breakfast was very different, no more buffet style, instead it was very much a slower process of being asked what you'd like from a reduced choice and placed on a tray and forgetting the odd thing and having to go back, PAIN.

Most fuel stations are now pay at pump, lots of cafes/restaurants closed on route, but plenty open in the bigger towns etc.

Roads - surprisingly busier than expected, but what IS new is the amount of use of the the single white line to stop overtaking. This is was almost everywhere on our equivalent A roads, bloody nuisance as it causes lots of slow moving traffic and prohibits bikers from overtaking, 150 Euro fine if caught.

Vercors region - well what a mix of enjoyment. Tight twisties, big ol mountain sweepers, amazing views from the foothills of the Alps and not too far to ride to get right into the Alps of Serre Chevalier.

We picked a FECKIN hot week to go though 46c in the sun is just too hot to be ridding a bike, so some days were cut short.

We all really enjoyed the trip and the Vercours didn't disappoint and would take the area in on route again.

Hope this helps anyone travelling through France or thinking of a spell in the Vercors.
Cheers,
Charlie Spiceboy.
