Gen 2 2020 Exhaust options
« on: August 09, 2020, 12:04:08 PM »
Hi all
New on here so please be gentle, as we all do well most of us, what exhaust options are there for the gen2 ? If have found the akro that seems to be in short supply in the UK, but is there another option for example does a gen 1 end can fit the gen 2 ? Or does the rr option work ? Anyone tried any of this ?
Gen 2 S1000xr and that’s it.

If you are looking for sound and more noise, replacing just the end can won’t do it. All silencing is done in the headers (cats and that ugly silencer box underneath the bike).
So the only way is to go for aftermarket headers and  end can or just the headers with the stock can. Akrapovic is the best IMHO.

As esso-sa says, if you're after a better sound, you're wasting your time.....headers or a de-cat are the only option there. And no the Gen-1 exhaust is completely different, not even close....it has a twin pipe entry into the muffler whereas the Gen-2 does not. I believe the 2019> RR muffler is a different angle compared to the Gen-2 XR and won't fit without modification and you may lose the passenger pegs and luggage clearance..

Thanks gents, saved me a boat load of money, won’t go full system as bmw have a way of voiding the warranty if you remove the cat.
Gen 2 S1000xr and that’s it.

That's not entirely true....BMW do actually supply an Akrapovic system for the XR's......so if they fit it....it must be covered under warranty.

On my 2020 I am going to ditch the stock end can, and have a stainless steel short turn out piece made. Should be just a bit louder than stock. because,  I agree most of the muffling is done in the huge cat area. Will report back soon...
