Hi Team,

Just bought a Red 2017 S1000XR with 65k on the clock and absolutely love it.  I'm an engineer and have a healthy suspicion of genuine workshops and therefor like to maintain my bikes.  Happy to take on the majority of tasks and share my experiences but would like to call upon the community from time to time for tips.

65k wow thats some mileage. There probably wouldn't be too many in the UK with that mileage. I never know what mileage to expect from a bike and I have never had a bike with more than 30k. With a car I normally run them to 150 - 180k and never worry about reliability.

Are you kilometres or miles in Oz? Even if it's K's its still 40k miles here.

G'Day,

65,000Km. The previous owner commuted via motorway 140Km (88m) round-trip to work each day.  Easy travelling however I've currently got the bike in bits as the steering head bearing had a massive notch in it due to the constant highway travelling, not to mention that the genuine service garage had severely overtightened the bearings causing premature failure.

Bike runs like a dream.
