Beware of the 2020 if you live where its hot
« on: September 07, 2020, 06:52:33 AM »
Just did 300 clicks for lunch and once I left the Cali coast temps went to 106f. The heat coming off the radiator baked my leg so bad. I got off the freeway and check into a motel. It was still a 100f At 7:30 at night

I'm guessing those temperatures you guys are having atm are on the extreme end of intended operating temps for the bike. Hope it starts to cool down for you soon - we know how you feel here in Oz. We are watching this in horror and buckling up again ourselves.

It's not just the 2020 model. I was in France, Germany & Luxembourg last year when it was over 35C for long periods and peaked at 43C. My 2016 bike was hitting 106C with the fan blasting hot air on my ankles. Both got a bit scorched, especially the left one as we rode along the Mosel where there are a lot of villages, low speed limits and traffic.

my 2016 did not cook my shins like this. I need NOMEX pants or  use the brain and not ride when temps are going to be that high. It was manageable, riding with the feet at the edge of the pegs up to 100f, stopping to drench every now and then.Of course im a geez some skin is thinner than it used to be

My 2019 is also a heat generator, and I have seen plenty others mention this for Gen 1.  I find that the only thing that helps is to wear solid (non mesh) pants and boots.  Any mesh will only help the engine heat get to your skin.

Hi,

I wear a pair of Revit Cayenne Pro pants on my 19. No vents in the lower leg area, but heavy metal mesh venting around the thighs.
Never had any issues and we have had high temps up to 38 degrees centigrade regularly this summer.

I realize the temps you are getting are even more extreme these days and I guess we will just need to learn how to deal with that, as no improvement is on the horizon. When we all switch to electric bikes, the issue will disappear.

As a petrolhead, I dread that day and the lack of decent sound, but I guess it will happen anyway, looking at multiple governments banning petrol cars in the not so distant future. The same will unfortunately happen to our beloved bikes.

All the best,

Remo
