Has anyone had any problems with their XR
« on: April 05, 2016, 12:51:46 PM »
Hi All
A friend and I have had a few teething problems with our XR's over here in Oz apart from the bar vibes and wondering whether anyone else has experienced them. We are receiving plenty of help from our BMW dealer but thought it strange I haven't seen any posting resembling our issues so far, here they are:

Bike won't switch off with the key, only kill switch, ignition switch problem apparently has happened to S1000R's also
Suspension ride height won't change, even though a change is indicated in the dash display but remains flashing
Cam chain tensioner noise
Cruise control won't hold steady speed
Loud metallic clunking noise from low on bike when passing over short sharp bumps at slow speed, this is peculiar to 1 out of 3 XR's ridden, pillion and solo
Loud gear whine in 6th around 4000 RPM upwards under load, apparently is normal for these gearboxes

My friend and I have experienced all of these issues but not all of them on both bikes, interestingly bar vibes vary in intensity over 3 XR's ridden 2 have Oggy Knobs on bar ends and motor which improved the vibes considerably.  About to collect mine from dealer tomorrow after having 10 K service and problems looked at will be interesting to see any difference.

I have not experienced any of these problems.  Had the bar vibes initially but they deminished with some miles and heavier barends.  Everything else is working fine and cruise control is excellent.

Maybe they sent all the problems over here, I didn't get the chance to pick mine up today so don't know how the dealer went with sorting the cam chain tensioner it should be better as they used the same fix on mine as my mates and his is was sorted no more noise.

Will do a post after I pick it up and give it a run.

Don't be sorry, I say lucky you that's good to hear.  I still love the bike and am quite used to the vibes now, perfect bike for what I need now no wonder it got Bike of the Year by AMCN over here well deserved.  Have to say BMW here have been fantastic with back up and trying to sort the issues for us

The only issue that I have had is the clunking sound from low speed, sharp bumps.  Can't tell from where.  Not all the time, but it's there.  I was wondering if mine was the only one that it happens to....apparently not. No idea what it is.  Just going to listen and watch it for now.

Do you have a centre stand?

It maybe that bouncing! Cable tie it to something solid and see if you can hear it then.

Is the cruise control not holding the speed on straight or on turns?
I noticed it goes up and down on curvy roads.
On the other hand I want to be in charge of throttle on those.

On straights it holds too well. Boring...
