    S1000XR gen1 vs gen2 owner key points.
History: 2016 model red, 2019 model triple black, 2020 red.

Gen 1.1 (2017-2019) vs gen 1.0 (2015-2016) differences: 5 hp increase unnoticeable, bar vibration minimal improvement, DESA a little softer after 2017, throttle response softer in low rpm after 2017.

    Gen 2
What’s missing : 90 degree upright seating position, intake howl, pops and bangs in dynamic and dynamic pro modes, stiff suspension even in road mode, analog tach, urgency of throttle in low rpm, exhaust note, longer seat, GS like bars, rear light, angled tire valves, ABS off feature, lap timer for track.

What’s added : more involving seat-bars position, refined engine- transmission in city riding using first two gears, increased stability at higher speeds, lighter feeling of turn in, confidence inspiring rear suspension when leaning, quiet touring riding, less mechanical noises, easier ground reach due to thinner front part of the seat, soft throttle response in low rpm even in dynamic mode, brilliant TFT dash, easier wind screen adjustment, fully customizable dynamic pro mode with engine brake tuning, connectivity of devices, stellar LED cornering lights, increased range of DESA for comfortable riding, hill start feature, automatic ride height adjustment, better aerodynamics, longer 4th, 5th and 6th gears for highway cruising and fuel economy, LIGHTER adjustable clutch, 10 kg evident weight reduction, smaller lighter and better looking pannier docks, a complete trip computer, better feeling quick shifter and more precise shift lever, more room under the seat and a small GSA style change compartment on the tank, smaller lighter and better looking end can, sharper front brakes.

A fair summary.  I can only add that the Gen 2 lights are much better too.

Great summary of the differences between the new and the old. I like the raw riding experience of the old model with the pops and the bangs especially when it has been decatted with headers and fuelling modules. I will not be changing to the new model. Maybe a latter iteration with the shift cam which pops and crackles in the dynamic mode may tempt me
