Delivery Stop on 2020 XR due to Steering Damper?
on: November 24, 2020, 02:43:27 PM
Anyone heard about a "Delivery Stop" on 2020 XRs due to a steering damper issue?  Just asking in case anyone has or gets some more details...  Peter

Aren't they into 2021 models now....I thought the 2020 stopped production at the end of August/September.??

I guess (but don't know) there are no changes for 2021 but either way bikes are still being shipped (to the UK in my case) just wondered if anyone else had heard the same.  Peter

Only changes are cosmetic I believe...the black panel on the 2020 tank is now gone for the 2021 model....new colours too.

I don't know whether it is due a steering damper issue, but Max BMW in CT confirmed the delivery stop on 2021 model. I have one but have not received any recall notice. We'll see.

Are you sure the delivery stop is not because of brake calipers (leaking)

Mine was put on hold for 3 days in early September, waiting a new set of leak-free Haynes replacement calipers to arrive. There is a discussion within BMW USA dealership network that a return to Brembo calipers might be in the works. Not heard anything about a steering damper, however.

I ordered mine the end of November from Pandora’s in Chattanooga, TN. About 3 weeks afterwards, they confirmed the stop sell order. They claimed it was the front brake (Hayes) issue. I gather the recall (and fix) didn’t work.

Last week they reached back out and said the mothership was replacing Hayes with Brembo on new births. I should expect mine late January early February.

Haven’t heard of any other recalls...

Should I be worried about the brakes on my 2021 XR? It has BMW branded brakes.

From what I could find, the Hayes brakes developed a leak on “some”. Dealers were seeing seepage on floor models, other riders experienced the same, not all leaked. The leak is reported to be gradual. Check your levels when you mount. I have not heard anything from my dealer or others mentioning a full replacement of existing XR’s in the road already. I’d think however, if they do fail, they will replace rather than repair.

The stop sell appears to have been only in the US. I’d reach out to your dealer though..
