2020 S1000XR GPS change and connection

    Hello everybody,
I recently changed my "old" XR for the new model and have run into a problem. I had ordered the bike with the pre-installed mount for the BMW GPS and I want to change it for another Garmin GPS mount.
This procedure was quite simple in the previous model, simply remove the left side fairing panel, disconnect the plug and reinstall my alternate Garmin mount......but, I tried doing this on the new model and have been unable to find the GPS connection on the left side, not to mention the difficulty I had removing the left side fairing.
Can anyone tell me where they have placed the new connection?
    Thank you all :002:

I've done mine, it's on the left hand side just bellow the headstock ,I'll try and get a picture tomorrow, but I'm not going to remove any of the panels, so it might not be too clear. Here is the picture I took at the time of installation, you can easily find this post .

I will look into this tomorrow. Is it necessary to remove the side panel?

I removed the side panel, I'm not used to BMW connectors and how to release them, my last two bikes were Triumphs. But you have previous experience so I reckon you could probably manage from the top , or one hand down and the other up from underneath, if I had to repeat the job I wouldn't need to remove any panels. Good luck.

Depending on which Garmin you own you could just open the BMW mount, detach the powersupply and connect this to the Garmin mount.
That's what I did already on two bikes.
Just needed are small Torx screwdriver and some silicone sealant.

Mine has the GPS prep on it, but I'm going to swap it out for a phone mount with wireless charging. I can only see one connector on the left side, the wire seems to go in near the powerlet/DIN socket, see photo. If this is it, I was hoping I can get it all out without pulling any panels, maybe by disconnecting the wire in the nav cradle...?

That's the plug you need to access. That's what I wired my Garmin Zumo XT to, I did have my TomTom rider 550 wired to the same port, both behave perfectly.

    Thanks.

Did you already have the GPS prep? I'm poking around but it looks like I might need to pull some of the nose off to remove the existing wiring and run a new wire up to the mounting point.

OK, so did you just reuse the existing wire to power your new GPS or run a new one? I'd like to retain the cradle and wire intact for when I eventually sell the bike, but I don't see how I'm going to do that without pulling a lot of the nose plastics to get the plug end out and the new wire in, but I recall you saying you only pulled a side panel?

Ultimately I want to use either a SP Connect Wireless Charging module or a QuadLock Wireless Charging Head and so I need to connect into the +/- of the GPS power. I haven't decided on which to use yet: I like the QuadLock because I can do portrait or landscape when I put the phone in, but the SP Connect seems to lead to a smaller stack when I combine mount, vibration damper and charging head and this keeps the phone further away, i.e. closer to the screen.
